The 26-year-old midfielder was a top target for Leeds in the last transfer window and the club held talks with the player’s representatives over a potential move, as well as touching base with Udinese.
Marcelo Bielsa wanted to improve his midfield options ahead of Leeds’ journey in the Premier League and De Paul was a priority target.
But Leeds never came close to matching Udinese’s £35m valuation and the club tried to sign Michael Cuisance, only for the deal to fall apart and leave the club ending the window without a midfielder.
De Paul’s future is under the scanner ahead of the winter window as Udinese are prepared to sell, albeit only for the same asking price.
However, sources close to De Paul insist that the feeling in the player’s camp is that another approach from Leeds in January will not come.
De Paul’s representatives are looking at destinations for him in Italy or Spain.
Leeds may make no major signings in January as they are not fans of doing business in the winter window.
Unless they have to plug a hole, Leeds are expecting a quiet transfer window when it opens next month.
