German authorities have confirmed the suspension of air links with the UK, no new coronavirus mutation has yet been identified in the FRG
According to the country’s health minister, Jens Spahn, Germany has been suspending flights with the UK since midnight. It is also imposing restrictions on South Africa from Monday.
The minister stressed that in a situation where the new COVID-19 mutation is spreading too fast, it is important to end UK air links with the rest of continental Europe.
“As a result of co-operation with the Department for Transport, all planes from the UK as of midnight are being cancelled. Tomorrow we will publish a federal government order restricting entry from the UK and South Africa, which have a similar mutation of the coronavirus”, – said Spahn.
He added that no new strain of the virus has yet been identified in Germany. German medical professionals are in contact with European and especially British colleagues, specialists have to study the possible effects of the new mutation on the course of the pandemic and its control.
