Fantasy Island Reboot TV Show Set At Fox | Screen Rant
A Fantasy Island reboot show is coming to Fox. Created by Gene Levitt, the original series ran on ABC from 1977 to 1984. Starring Ricardo Montalbán as the allusive Mr. Roarke and Hervé Villechaize as his energetic assistant Tattoo, Fantasy Island was a staple of television viewing during its time, as audiences tuned in to watch the dynamic duo offer guests a chance to live out their fantasies on the titular island... for a price. Now it appears Fantasy Island will be opened for business to a new generation.
Per Variety, a contemporary reboot of Fantasy Island will air on Fox in summer 2021. Helmed by Liz Craft and Sarah Fain (The Fix, Angel), Fantasy Island will feature a semi-anthological premise and follow guests on the mysterious island as they dive into the “what if” questions, both big and small. Slated for a straight-to-series full order, Fantasy Island will be the third reboot of the original following Blumhouse’s 2020 horror film rendition and a one-season series on ABC that starred Malcolm McDowell.
In an era of reboots and revivals, bringing an iconic series back to life - for the third time - could be a hit or a miss. Of course, Craft and Fain have numerous successful credits under their belt and are the ideal choice to bring a new version of Fantasy Island to life. Speaking on the Fantasy Island summer release, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said, “After all, who among us wouldn’t take a (safe) trip to Fantasy Island right now?" As it stands, it has yet to be revealed who will be cast in the new adaptation of Fantasy Island.
