‘A successful recipe’ – Ibrahimovic admits he is not surprised by how Mourinho is doing at Spurs
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted that he is not surprised by how well Tottenham Hotspur are doing this season under Jose Mourinho, insisting that the Portuguese is sticking by the same methods that have always brought him success.
Mourinho has won trophies at every club he has managed and he confidently claimed last season that Tottenham will not be his only club without silverware.
His side have certainly given themselves every chance of winning trophies this season, currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table and sealing progression to the knockout stages of the Europa League as well as the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
So far, it seems as if Mourinho’s Tottenham side are living up to the Portuguese coach’s brilliant record in his second season at his respective previous employers.
Ibrahimovic, who played under Mourinho at Manchester United and Inter Milan, admitted that he expected no different of his former boss.
The AC Milan striker told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast: “He’s (Mourinho) doing his job, he’s proved and has proven that he is a top coach, one of the best, so he is just continuing to do what he’s doing, so it’s not a surprise.
“The only thing he’s doing is doing it with a different club now, so I know who Mourinho is as a person and a coach and the philosophy that he brings out is a successful recipe.
“He’s just continuing to do things he was doing before.”

In hindsight, it certainly appears as if Mourinho’s time at Manchester United was an anomaly rather being an indication of his decline as a manager. As Zlatan says, the Portuguese coach seems to be getting the best out of this Spurs side by following a similar blueprint (both tactically and in terms of man-management) that he has with the likes of Inter Milan and Chelsea.
However, it appears as if he has mellowed down a bit and is now a lot calmer than he was previously, which could be the consequence of having more experience under his belt. Hopefully, that means that he does not have a crash in his third season at Spurs as he has in other clubs he has managed in the past.
