Journalist provides an update on Tottenham’s rumoured pursuit of Dominik Szoboszlai
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Tottenham Hotspur are one of five clubs who are thought to be front-runners for the signature of Hungarian wonderkid Dominik Szoboszlai.
The attacking midfielder is one of the most sought after youngsters in world football at the moment owing to the form he has shown for RB Salzburg and Hungary over the past year and a half.
90min.com reported last month that Tottenham were in a tussle with some of the biggest clubs in Europe for the 20-year-old’s signature, while BILD (via Sport Witness) also suggested that the midfielder was on the North Londoners’ radar.
David Ornstein has now revealed that, while RB Leipzig is Szoboszlai’s most likely destination, Spurs, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan have not given up hope of landing him.
The journalist confirmed previous reports that the Hungarian international has a release clause of around €25m (£22.6m) but he revealed that a deal will not be easy to pull off, with Salzburg set to demand the entire fee upfront instead of in instalments.
Additionally, there is also thought to be a 20 per cent sell-on mechanism which would apply for any future fee the buying club could get for Szoboszlai.
However, Ornstein adds that a potential deal could progress quickly as the midfielder needs to give his club notice by December 15 if he wants to leave in January, while bids must be launched by the end of this month.
