JODIE Whittaker has revealed she broke down in tears when she learned that Doctor Who co-stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole were leaving the show.
Yesterday it was confirmed that the pair would be leaving the BBC sci-fi hit after the upcoming festive special Revolution of the Daleks.
Addressing the news, Jodie revealed the emotional toll the departures had taken.
“The fam as a four is no more – this will be the last time we see Bradley and Tosin,” she said.
“On a personal note [I’m] absolutely devastated,” she went on.
“Without going into any specifics about anything to do with character, or what happens, just purely knowing it was my last scenes with those actors… both of them had to carry me to my trailer, I haven’t cried like that for such a long time.”
Whittaker stressed that she wasn’t the only one overwhelmed by the goodbye – Walsh and Cole were equally emotional.
“Brad couldn’t cope with it at all. Tosin was like, ‘I really can’t cope with you getting so upset,'” she continued.
Taking a swipe at her co-star Mandip Gill, who plays Yaz, she added: “That sums up how I felt, there wasn’t a sense of relief in any way. I said ‘Don’t leave me with her!'”
Walsh said of his departure: “I have absolutely loved it, loved it,” Bradley said about leaving the show.
“Wales has become like a second home to me and being included in something so iconic and ground breaking with the advent of having a female Doctor, that whole thing where Chibnall sold that to me, it didn’t disappoint and I loved working with those guys.
“I love working with Chris Chibnall, that man is a genius but to also be working with Mandip and Tosin and of course Jodie is just extraordinary.”
Revolution of the Daleks will air on New Year’s Day on BBC One and sees the Doctor split from her companions after being locked up in a space prison as the Daleks return to Earth.
Killing Eve star Dame Harriet Walter will star while Sex and the City actor Chris Noth will return as disgraced businessman Jack Robertson.
Bradley and Tosin’s swansong will also see John Barrowman return as Captain Jack Harkness.
Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now.
