‘I don’t understand’ – Jose Mourinho hits out at international fixture schedule
Jose Mourinho has hit out at the upcoming November international fixture schedule, just as his Tottenham side enter into the busy winter period.
Spurs play Ludogorets in the Europa League tomorrow night and West Brom in the Premier League on Sunday before the players jet off to link up with their international sides.
Tottenham then return to action on November 21 against Man City before playing ten games in a month between November 26 and December 26.
During this time, the Lilywhites take on Ludogorets, Chelsea, LASK, Arsenal, Royal Antwerp, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Leicester City, Stoke City, and Wolves.
While Mourinho claimed that he never has any problem with his players fighting it out in competitive international fixtures, he could not say the same for friendlies.
The Spurs head coach admitted his confusion at why there were still international friendlies after the creation of the Nations League, and insisted that he would love for his stars to be rested.
He said (Football London): “I thought with the Nations League there would be no more friendlies but there is which I don’t understand. With competitive matches, I would never complain about managers wanting to use their best players. With friendlies coming after players are playing on Sunday it’s different. If you ask me if I would expect my players to be rested for the friendlies I’d say I wouldn’t expect, but I would love it.”
