Stephen King Anthology ‘Castle Rock’ Canceled by Hulu After 2 Seasons
Hulu is not going back to “Castle Rock.” The Stephen King-inspired anthology has been canceled after two seasons.
The series was loosely based on King’s many works, including “Salem’s Lot,” “Misery” and “Shawshank Redemption.” The second season starred Lizzy Caplan as a younger Annie Wilkes, who was memorably portrayed by Kathy Bates in the film adaptation of “Misery.”
King executive produced the series alongside JJ. Abrams and his Bad Robot banner. It was from Warner Bros. TV and Dustin Thomason and Sam Shaw served as showrunner. It ended its two-season last December.

The series was set in Castle Rock, Maine, a fictional town that is frequently the setting for King’s novels, including “Cujo,” “The Dead Zone,” and “The Body” (the novella that “Stand By Me” was based on).
The first season featured Shawshank Penitentiary (the setting of “The Shawshank Redemption”) and starred Bill Skarsgaard, Andre Holland, Scott Glenn and King alum Sissy Spacek (“Carrie”).
Along with Caplan, the sophomore follow-up featured another King alum, Tim Robbins and Paul Sparks, Elsie Fisher, Yusra Warsama and Barkhad Abdi. Robbins played Reginald “Pop” Merrill, who was featured in King’s 1990 novella “The Sun Dog,” while Sparks was “Ace” Merrill, the character played by Kiefer Sutherland in “Stand By Me.”
