Cheerleader, 17, stormed by 10 cops in ‘racist’ swatting incident
A 17-year-old cheerleader is the victim of an ‘racist’ swatting incident where police stormed into her dorm room with guns drawn over a false report.
Christin Evans was sleeping in her dorm room at Stephen F Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texason on September 14 when the raid took place.
‘I feel shaken,’ she said. ‘I can’t sleep at night. It has made me paranoid. I was looking forward to making friends and having a good time on the cheer team.’
Her parents Lashondra and Chris said they believe the attack to be racially motivated. Police told them that 10 students were involved in executing the false report.
‘I want justice,’ Lashondra said. ‘I want the people responsible to have consequences. They played with her life.’
Chris and Lashondra made an announcement with their attorney on Monday demanding that the school takes action against the group of students that targeted their daughter.
‘We’re upset and we want something to be done about it,’ her father said. ‘When I sent my daughter off to school, my worse-case scenario was that she should call needing money or an issue with her grades.’
The family’s attorney said police told Christin they had received information that she had scissors and was threatening to stab students, which ended up being a false report.
‘If she would have had something in her bed or if they would’ve (seen) her phone flash, it’s shiny on the back, and they had reported she had a knife, they could’ve shot her,’ her mom said.
John Fields, the school’s chief of police, has launched an investigation and said ‘the students will be held accountable for this at every possible level.’
The school’s president, Scott Gordon, released a statement on Twitter saying, ‘each perpetrator will be dealt with appropriately.’
Since then, Christin has moved into a new dorm and continues to take classes online.
