Julianne Moore Would Return For A Jurassic Park Sequel But Hasn't Been Asked

Julianne Moore, who played Dr. Sarah Harding in the second Jurassic Park film, The Lost World, says she's open to returning to the franchise. Moore, who has been nominated for four Oscars and won in 2015 for her portrayal of a woman dealing with Alzheimer's in Still Alice, launched herself as a global star by tackling the role of Dr. Harding in the first sequel. Moore starred alongside Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm, the only returning main character out of the original trio from Jurassic Park to appear in The Lost World.

Moore's character is a paleontologist who is hired by InGen, the company who created the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park franchise, to investigate a group of dinosaurs that were left to breed freely on Isla Sorna. She's the catalyst for the plot, as Malcolm is convinced to travel to the island only after finding out that Harding, his girlfriend, is already there. Despite surviving the carnage, Dr. Harding hasn't appeared in any of the subsequent films in the franchise, which include the widely panned Jurassic Park III, as well as the three Jurassic World movies.

Speaking to Collider, Moore reveals that's because she's never been asked back. Making it clear that she's not upset about being left out of the franchise plans in the past two decades, Moore thinks there is room for Dr. Harding to return to the franchise. And if she did, and the filmmakers wanted her, Moore says she would definitely take them up on the offer. You can see her comments below:

Yeah, Sarah Harding. Maybe she’s not done yet. I don’t know. But no one has approached me. That’s ok! But if they did? Yeah, sure! Of course, of course!

Surprisingly, Moore hasn't been approached to return, especially considering Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill are all reprising their original roles in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Of course, their characters are far more iconic than Harding, given the affection that fans feel for the classic original, but there's no doubt that Moore's return would be a popular choice. Her story is unresolved, and with her connection to Dr. Malcolm, there's a reason for her to return, especially is Goldblum's character survives events in Fallen Kingdom.

As far as Moore goes, her comments prove that she's not shy of appearing in blockbuster movies, despite her reputation for being more of an independent movie star. Her Oscar nominations have all come in more intimate dramatic fare, like Boogie Nights and The Hours. However, besides The Lost World, she's also appeared in other blockbuster franchises, including The Hunger Games and The Kingsman. So, if the Jurassic Park franchise continues, there's potential for another familiar character to come back to give audiences a new dose of nostalgia.
