Boris ‘worried about money and affording a nanny’ on £150,000 PM salary

Boris Johnson is reported to be worried about money after taking a large pay cut to run the country.

The Prime Minister has given up his newspaper column with the Daily Telegraph, said to be worth £275,000, and is no longer being paid for speaking arrangements.

A source told the Times that he is worried about supporting his children, four of which are in university, on his £150,000 Prime Ministerial salary.

The PM is also said to be worried about affording childcare for his youngest son Wilfred, who is less than a year old.

His expenses also include any food sent up to the flat above 11 Downing Street, which the Prime Minister and his fiancee Carrie Symonds use, and a bill for every time he hosts friends at Chequers.

One friend told the Times: ‘Boris, like other prime ministers, is very, very badly served. He doesn’t have a housekeeper – he has a single cleaner and they’re worried about being able to afford a nanny.

‘He’s stuck in the flat and Downing Street is not a nice place to live. It’s not like the Élysée or the White House where you can get away from it all because they’re so big. Even if he or Carrie want to go into the rose garden they have to go through the office.’

Sources said the Prime Minister has ‘misery etched on his face’ and is no longer his usual upbeat self as he works through Brexit negotiations and the pandemic.

It comes as Boris Johnson admitted the UK was seeing a second wave of coronavirus and is reported to be looking at implementing ‘circuit breaker’ lockdowns which see shorter periods with stricter restrictions.

Outside of the pandemic Boris Johson is battling members of his own party who have criticised his Brexit plan that self-admittedly breaks international law.
