90 Day Fiancé: Colt Johnson Finally Asks Mother Debbie to Back Off
Is Colt cutting the cord? The famous mother-son duo of 90 Day Fiancé, Colt Johnson, and Debbie have always been under the spotlight for their overtly close bond. Debbie’s involvement in Colt’s everyday and romantic affairs has constantly struck 90 Day Fiancé fans as odd. But the next episode’s preview shows Colt wanting to talk to Debbie about limiting her interference. Will Larissa and Jess’s ex be successful?
Colt and Larissa’s tumultuous marriage on 90 Day Fiancé was marred by the Brazilian’s many arrests. The season 6 couple was engaged within five days of meeting, and Larissa soon landed in Colt’s house on a K1-visa and later also got married. Colt, on the other hand, shared his roof with mother Debbie and her cats. On losing his father to a heart attack, Colt’s bond with his mother got stronger than ever. Her “overprotectiveness” is something that Colt appreciated but did admit that, “I didn’t ask to take care of my mother. I didn’t want that burden.” However, the Las Vegas native had also added, “But she’s my mother, and she needs me. And maybe she’s not the best person, but she’s my person.” Debbie never got along with Larissa during her marriage to Colt, and she was skeptical about Jess’s intentions since Day 1. 90 Day Fiancé fans also speculated that Debbie tried her best to manipulate the relationship by involving more of Vanessa Guerra in Colt’s life to make Jess, jealous. Her apparent plan and gaslighting did work and Jess broke up with Colt on the recent episode upon learning about Vanessa being Colt and Debbie’s roommate.
In his second stint at televised love on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, Colt noticed how Debbie was repeating the same patterns with Jess, as she’d done with Larissa. “I knew going into Brazil, my mother being there could jeopardize my relationship with Jess,” Colt had said. “And now she’s slamming doors, she’s yelling. And she’s just doing the same sh*t she did with Larissa.” Debbie herself admitted “I wish that Colt would be with someone like Vanessa, instead of Jess,” to the cameras. With the rift that Debbie created now having turned permanent, Colt is seen having a conversation with his friend Steve about his intrusive mother. Cheat Sheet shares that the preview has Colt trying to better himself with exercising and coming clean to Steve about his mistakes. Steve, on the other hand, echoes what most 90 Day Fiancé viewers feel, “I know Debbie really comes from a good place in her heart, she has the best of intentions. But sadly, her interfering in these relationships is putting a lot of undue pressure and stress on Colt.”
In a confessional, Colt seems to surprisingly agree with his friend’s wise words. “My mother loves me very much, but I think she just never wants to lose me,” the 90 Day Fiancé star is heard saying. He later adds, “I need her less involved in my relationships — it’s very difficult to break a pattern, but I think the only way I can move forward is to just say no to her interference.”
If the next episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? does have a confrontation between the popular TLC mom-son pair, it could indicate the future of their relationship. As much as social media suggests that Colt and Debbie still stay together with their mutual friend and roommate Vanessa, the matriarch will not be taking kindly to Colt’s suggestion in all likeliness.
