Now that Messi has accepted that his release clasue ran out at the date specified rather than the end of the covid extended season this hopefully sets a precedent that contracts that are dated are valid rather than the date being ignored.
Messi thought he was free to leave as he thought he was able to leave for a free at the 'end of the season' however his release clause had a specific date (which would usually have been after the season finished) and he has accepted that the date is valid even though the season hadn't finished. It is effectively the same situation as us with JKA as our obligation to buy was specific on us being promoted by a certain date - and due to the season being delayed we weren't promoted by that date.
As such it should certainly help our case as the end of the season has in the Messi case has been clarified as the end of the actual season and not a date when it would normally have ended.
