Super Mario 3D World is making its way to Switch in February, and it includes new content known as Bowser's Fury. Here's what we know about it so far.
There were a bunch of game announcements related to Mario's 35th Anniversary last week. Even though fans expected quite a few of them, Nintendo still managed to throw a few surprises in. One surprise is that Super Mario 3D World, which was expected as a remaster on Switch, is getting re-released for the console as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. So, just what is this new Boswer's Fury content, and how does it relate to the base game?
In addition to the limited-time Super Mario 3D All-Stars releasing in September, fans can expect to see Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury in February. The original Super Mario 3D World released on the Wii U in 2013, but because of the lackluster sales of the Wii U many fans didn't get to experience it. Because of that, many Nintendo fans have been hoping for a long time that Super Mario 3D World would get a remaster on Switch.
The premise of Super Mario 3D World is fairly simple. Bowser has captured all the Sprixies (little fairies) from the Sprixie Kingdom. It's up to Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad to recover the Sprixies, save their kingdom, and ultimately take on Bowser. So, how does Bowser's Fury play into all of this? Based on the fact that the title is an addition to the regular game, this probably means Bowser's Fury will pick up after Mario and friends save the Sprixie Kingdom. Perhaps Bowser is looking for some revenge, or maybe the events of Bowser's Fury run parallel to those in Super Mario 3D World.
Details on the added plot of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury have been scarce, but a seemingly new nighttime world was shown during the Nintendo Direct trailer for the game. This shows Mario standing before a mysterious Super Bell. It's unlikely the new Bowser's Fury will just be a new level or superboss, however. If it warrants an addition to the game's main title, fans will be expecting a decent amount of new content in Bowser's Fury.
Additionally, Bowser's Fury could show the original game (or brand-new content) from the antagonist's perspective. It could add new levels, new mechanics, and a new playable character in the form of Bowser. For fans who fought Meowser in Super Mario 3D World, getting to play as a cat version of Bowser would be pretty cool. Nintendo has also shared that both games will feature online multiplayer, meaning everyone can play through Sprixie Kingdom with friends online.
Until more details are shared by Nintendo, players won't know the full extent of Bowser's Fury or its impact on Super Mario 3D World. A good guess is that Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will add new features and additional story content. Maybe users will even get Bowser as a playable character. Fans should now more as the game gets closer to its February release date.
