Donald Trump accuses Kamala Harris of being a coronavirus anti-vaxxer

Donald Trump has dramatically accused rival Kamala Harris of being an anti-vaxxer and trying to discredit an upcoming coronavirus vaccine. Speaking outside the White House on Monday, the President of the United States said: ‘Under my leadership we will produce a vaccine in record time.

‘Biden and his very liberal running mate (Kamala Harris) the most liberal person in congress by the way, who’s not a competent person in my opinion, would destroy this economy and destroy this country.

‘(They) should immediately apologize for the reckless anti-vaccine rhetoric that they are talking right now, talking about “endangering lives” and it undermines science.

‘And what’s happening is you’ll have this incredible vaccine and because of that fake rhetoric, because now they’ve seen we’ve done an incredible job at speed nobody’s ever seen before…you could even have it during the month of October.

‘Contrary to all the lies, the vaccine will be very safe and very effective and delivered very soon. You could have a big surprise coming up. The people of the world will be very happy.’

Trump appeared to be taking aim at Harris after the Democratic vice presidential nominee told CNN Sunday that she would not trust a vaccine pushed by the president.

Harris, a California Senator, said: ‘I would not trust Donald Trump and it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the efficacy and the reliability of whatever he’s talking about. I will not take his word for it.’

The vice presidential hopeful also said Trump would try and muzzle any US government experts who expressed skepticism over the new shot. Last month, US state governors were told to prepare to begin distributing a coronavirus vaccine from the end of October.

Trump has been accused of trying to rush out a vaccine ahead of the November 3 presidential election. He has been criticized for his handling of the coronavirus crisis, which has infected 6.3million Americans and killed close to 190,000.

Biden said Monday that he’d be happy to get a scientifically-backed coronavirus vaccine as soon as it was rolled out.

Monday’s rambling press conference also saw Trump make repeated attacks on Joe Biden, and claim the US was headed for a ‘super V-shaped’ economic recovery from the pandemic.
