Firle Beacon everesting attempt
Sussex Nomads and SCRL rider Eoghan McHugh is doing an everesting attempt on Firle Beacon on the Sunday 20th September in aid of Surfers Against Sewage. PPYCC members who have been with us for a few years will know of everesting through the amazing achievements of our own Tom Pughe-Morgan and Lukas Nerurkar on Ditchling Beacon in 2017. However if you are not aware of the term ‘everesting’, it is continuous repeat ascents of the same climb until you have the same cumulative ascent height as the height of Everest, 8848 meters!
Eoghan is encouraging as many people to come along as possible and make this a real cycling community event. Club riders from all over the area will be dropping in to support Eoghan by riding some reps alongside him or standing roadside and cheering him on. It would be really great to see lots of PPYCC jerseys on the hill, it’s a fantastic hill climb with amazing views, meets the South Downs Way at the summit and has almost no traffic due to being a dead-end. While older PPYCC riders can no doubt make their own way there, there is roadside parking at the bottom towards Firle which would make this a great challenge for younger PPYCC riders, who may enjoy being cheered up the hill!
Eoghan should finish around 3pm so while you could drop in at any time from midnight onwards, the party will probably get going from lunchtime. Stravanator Dan will have his famous yellow coffee truck there to keep everyone’s sugar and caffeine levels topped up!
