In a straight knock-out cup competition every game is meaningful. For a team like Cas in 2017, all their efforts in the league become meaningless because of one game (unless you count the League Leaders' Shield as a worthwhile trophy - which no-one does)
Tbh I think that both Cas and Shudds fans would have been proud of they're teams achievement at being top of the tree and been the best there was at the end of the regular competition, the only ones that think it's not a worthwhile trophy are those that didn't finish on top.
