Conditions are likely to be on the slow side at Goodwood on Celebration Mile day.

He showed glimpses of it during a frustrating three-year-old campaign which was disrupted by niggling injuries and far from optimal race conditions.

But he proved what he was capable of in no uncertain terms when an impressive winner of the John Smith’s Cup when he quickened up well from off the pace to mow down his rivals inside the final furlong.

The second Certain Lad is no mug, and he gave the form a significant boost when bagging the Group 3 Strensall Stakes at York last week.

He’s taking on several horses at the head of the betting who are far from bombproof; Fox Chairman hasn’t kicked on this year, King Ottokar likewise, while Extra Elusive is quirky and has a penalty to defy.

The ground isn’t as bad as predicted at Windsor, but if the course is hit by some showers it won’t be a major issue as he handles cut.

Now he’s been gelded and in peak physical condition, he is fancied to kick on and establish himself in Group company.
