Two killed, three wounded in Oakland shootings

OAKLAND — A woman and a man were killed and three other people were wounded early Sunday in two East Oakland shootings, authorities said.

A man who was at the scene of the shooting where a 30-year-old Vallejo woman was killed  suffered critical injuries when he was hit and dragged several blocks by a vehicle fleeing the scene, authorities said.

None of the victims’ names have been released.

The shooting that left the Vallejo woman dead and a 29-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man wounded  happened about 12:12 a.m. Sunday in the  700 block of 105th Avenue near Pearmain Street.

Police are not sure if the three knew each other but said  they were all attending some kind of large party in the area and were outside when gunfire erupted and numerous shots were fired by an unknown number of suspects.  What prompted the gunfire has not been determined and no arrests have been made.

The Vallejo woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.  The other woman and man were in stable condition at different hospitals.

Police said that a 25-year-old San Jose man who was also at the party was  hit by an SUV driving southbound at high speed on 105th Avenue and was lodged under the vehicle that kept going.  Authorities have not determined yet if the occupants of the SUV were involved in the shooting or simply trying to flee the gunfire.

The man was finally dislodged from the SUV at  Edes and Douglas avenues about a quarter-mile away, police said.  The SUV kept going and the man was taken to a hospital where he was in critical condition with multiple injuries.

At 12:24 a.m. Sunday a  29-year-old Stockton man was found fatally shot  and a 30-year-old San Leandro man wounded inside a car that crashed into a parked vehicle in the 2500 block of 99th Avenue, police said. The San Leandro man was taken to a hospital and was in stable condition.

Police said they have not yet  determined exactly where the shooting happened.  Authorities said the two men were friends but it has not yet been determined what they were doing in Oakland or why they were shot.  No arrests have been made.

With the two fatal shootings, Oakland police have now investigated 63 homicides in the city this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated 50  homicides in the city.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $20,000 in reward money in the 105th Avenue shooting, up to $15,000 in the 99th Avenue shooting and up to $5,000 in the hit-and-run for information leading to the arrests of the suspects.  Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
