Earlier today it was announced that 2019 World Series MVP Stephen Strasburg will undergo season ending surgery on his right hand.
The veteran right-hander was originally placed on the injured list on August 15 with carpal tunnel neuritis, but ultimately the decision was made that surgery is the best option.
Strasburg was 0-1 with a 10.80 ERA in just five innings pitched in 2020.
Manager Davey Martinez commented on the injury saying, “He took a shot; obviously it didn’t work.”
“He probably could have taken another shot, but we just needed to get it fixed. We don’t want to prolong anything.”
Although this is a potentially major blow to a deep October run, the Nationals will now get to take a look at their young pitching prospect Wil Crowe, who was drafted in the second round in 2017.
