Ex-Tottenham favourite Mauricio Pochettino has been joined by another former Premier League manager and a shock Arsenal legend as candidates to become the new Barcelona boss.
Barcelona suffered European humiliation with their 8-2 dismantling at the hands of Bayern Munich on Friday night.
The humbling – which Man Utd head honcho Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave his thoughts on here – compounded Barcelona’s recent misery in the Champions League after famously losing 4-0 to Liverpool after building a 3-0 first leg lead.
Unsurprisingly, the defeat has not gone down well in Catalonia. Widespread speculation has since circulated that Quique Setien will soon be axed.
Now, according to The Mirror (who cite outlet France Football), three faces familiar to the Premier League are on the four-man shortlist to take the reins.
Ex-Tottenham manager Pochettino is listed, with the Argentine still out of work following his Spurs sacking.
Pochettino transformed Tottenham into serious trophy contenders during his time in North London. Expectations were firmly surpassed when he led Spurs to the 2019 Champions League final.
The most surprising name on the shortlist regards Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, however.
The Frenchman spent three years at The Nou Camp as a player, but the current Montreal Impact boss has accrued a woeful winning percentage (20% and 22.22%) in two stints as a manager with Monaco and Montreal respectively.
Former Everton boss Ronald Koeman and Blaugrana legend Xavi are the final two names that complete the list.
Arsenal want to add at least two more signings after the capture of Willian – and Thomas Partey remains their top target.
Mikel Arteta is overseeing his first summer transfer window in charge at the Emirates Stadium. And he has already been busy – bringing in Willian after confirming permanent deals for Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari.
Arsenal still need to strengthen further if they are to restore their rightful position among the Premier League elite, though.
According to the Star, Arteta wants Arsenal to make two or more additional signings. Elaborating further, they reveal that a midfielder and a centre-back are at the top of the shopping list.
