Mum, 45, fatally injured in street with man arrested for murder

A mum has died after being found in the street with fatal injuries just 200 metres from her home yesterday.

The woman, named locally as Sue Woods, 45, was rushed to hospital in Liverpool but could not be saved.

A man, 47, who is believed to be known her her, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder.

Ms Woods was found outside a property on Moorland Road in Maghull at around 9.20pm yesterday evening.

A blue and yellow tent was erected today on the driveway of a home where it is understood she lay fatally hurt.

A police car was parked outside her home as investigations continued and detectives interviewed the suspect.

Today, friends and nearby residents who knew her paid tribute to her, and one man called the woman, her partner and her children a ‘lovely family’.

One woman said: ‘Sue was a nice woman. She had a dog, a cockapoo, I think, which she took for walks regularly.

‘I remember seeing her walking down the road holding hands with her partner during lockdown.

‘But recently, I remember thinking she definitely seemed like she had something on her mind, and she didn’t let on, like she usually would.

‘It’s so, so sad.’

Nearby residents told how they saw a man wailing, crying and shouting out at the scene as Ms Woods lay seriously injured.

One described how he was clearly highly distraught and was repeatedly saying, ‘Oh no, Sue'” before one neighbour brought out a chair for him to sit on.

Police are yet to disclose how the victim came by her injuries.

In a statement, Merseyside Police said: ‘Officers have arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of murder yesterday evening.

‘We were called to Moorland Road, Maghull by North West Ambulance Service at around 9:20pm following a concern for safety of a 45 year old woman in the area.

‘The woman was taken to hospital where she sadly passed away. Specialist officers are supporting her relatives at this difficult time.

‘Investigations are ongoing into the full circumstances and forensic analysis as well as house to house enquiries will likely continue throughout the weekend.’
