A hospital worker in Nottinghamshire discovered that a thief had badly damaged his car just after finishing a 12-hour shift in sweltering conditions.

The NHS employee, who did not wish to be named, finished his shift at Bassetlaw Hospital on Thursday, August 13, only to discover his vehicle was missing its entire front bumper.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) Trust branded the theft ‘appalling’ and said health workers risking their lives during the coronavirus pandemic deserve better.

It added such actions are ‘entirely demoralising’ to staff who are hard at work caring for others.

In a post on Facebook the trust appealed for anyone who might have seen anything to get in touch following the incident in a car park in Kilton Hill, Worksop.

The trust wrote: ‘We really need your help.

‘This is the sight a member of staff was greeted by when they returned to their car having worked an extremely humid 12-hour shift yesterday.

‘We are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious on our Bassetlaw Hospital site yesterday and in particular the triangle car park near Kilton Hill, between the hours of 8am and 8pm, or anyone who may know something about this appalling theft.

‘Security colleagues are currently reviewing our CCTV footage and are working with the police in regards to this matter.’

It added that CCTV footage showing three ‘hooded individuals’ will be passed to the police.

The trust said that its staff should not have worry about this type of behaviour while they are working.

It continued: ‘At any point in the day, colleagues within our trust are caring for the most vulnerable, welcoming new lives into the world and offering comfort to those at the end of it.

‘Our NHS heroes SHOULD NOT have to worry about leaving their vehicles on premises.

‘Episodes such as this are entirely demoralising and this is not how we should treat our health professionals who commit their working lives to the care of others.

‘If you know anything about this, please message us.’
