While not as popular as the other Arrowverse shows it spun off from like The Flash and Arrow, DC's Legends of Tomorrow has established itself as one of the most unique pieces of Superhero television with most of its action often leaning into its bizarre aspects.
While some fights have just the right amount of insane elements to them, some can overdo it resulting in them falling flat. So here are the 5 best fight scenes from Legends of Tomorrow and 5 that let fans down.
In the season 5 finale, we're introduced to a place called the "Hall of Bad Ideas" which features exhibits of the thong song, cigarettes, and even the Legends themselves. Near the end of the episode, a fight breaks out between a group of encores and the Legends, who were previously pretending to be statues.
Nate hits a button that activates the animatronic version Sisqo who performs the "Thong Song" while the Legends utilize various displays from the hall including Shake Weights, a pogo stick, and other items as weapons. It's a zany scene that manages to perfectly capture the essence of what makes the show great.
The final episodes of DC crossovers can sometimes be the weakest so it's no surprise that one of the Legends' worst fights takes place during their episode of the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. The episode starts with a giant version of Beebo attacking the city. After trying and failing to fight it, Ray and Rory with help from Kara and Barry, attach a rope to it and try bringing it down which also doesn't work.
Eventually, the team realizes that the Beebo was actually just an illusion created by Sargon the Sorcerer so that he could rob a bank while everyone was distracted. Flash takes Sara to go confront him and then she immediately knocks him out which causes the Beebo to turn to mush. Overall, the entire scene felt out of place in the episode plus Sargon wasn't even much of a threat.
After a recently freed Mallus found the Legends in the 19th century, the team was tasked with using the totems of Zambesi to collectively think of "something pure" and create an avatar to use in their fight against him which inadvertently causes them to create an enlarged version of Beebo.
Somehow, the team manages to defeat Mallus while in that form and although it makes no sense, making a fight between a time demon and a gigantic plush toy work is something only the Legends could pull off.
While the Legion of Doom, made up of Captain Cold, Damien Darhk, Malcolm Merlyn, and Eobard Thawne were extremely well handled through the second season, the final fight between them and the Legends was a different story. Things like Damien and Malcolm starting off the fight using guns to Atom and Firestorm missing direct hits at them seemed like excuses to keep the fights going longer.
Not to mention, Jefferson was able to disarm and stop the league-trained Malcolm in a matter of seconds and Heatwave was able to stop Damien fairly easily, even though it took Oliver entire seasons to deal with them. It also seems a little strange that Eobard doesn't use his superspeed to immediately murder all the Legends, even after getting the spear of Destiny.
One of the show's best action scenes happens in only it's the second episode when Vandal Savage's attempt to auction off the nuclear warhead is infiltrated by the Legends. After suspecting that Stein and the others may not be who they claimed, Savage offers a reward to whoever kills them and a fight breaks out.
Despite taking place in a location where there's a lot of commotion, the action never feels chaotic. The scene does an amazing job of giving each Legend a moment of action that shows off their unique skillset. It is also one of the few fights to feature all the ship's members, besides Rip, at one time.
The fight scene at the end of the episode, "Freakshow", is one of the few in which the show that has too much going on. From Stein being chased by a group of clowns and then being launched in the air towards Jefferson by Rory to Amaya almost mauling P.T. Barnum.
Even something like Jefferson and Martin fusing to make firestorm only to be knocked away almost immediately by Amaya makes you question why it was included. Almost nothing about the scene made sense and while that's usually a part of the show's charm, it just didn't work in this case.
Another one of the show's best fights comes in "Shogun" where Sara and Amaya team up to take down a group of Samurai. Since the Waverider is full of superheroes, it's always great to see the show do simpler and more realistic action segments that are less CGI heavy.
It's a short scene but the lack of cuts really allowed the fight choreography and to shine, especially since Caity Lotz was doing the stunt work herself.
In "Necromancing the Stone", Sara became possessed by Mallus after taking the death totem, believing that it was the key to stopping Mallus and bringing Laurel back. Sara manages to take out Ray, almost kill Amaya and Rory before they're saved by Wally, then uses illusions, the anti-speedster gun, and telekinesis to stop him.
Zari was the only one who managed to get through to Sara but that moment was short-lived as Mallus soon regained control of her body again. The fight only ends when Sara is eventually stopped by a fire totem-wielding Rory and while the concept was interesting, the execution could have been better.
Vandal Savage, in addition to being one of the Legend's most fearsome villains, he also was the hardest to kill. Near the end of the first season, we learned that Savage planned to reset the timeline and had instructed two past versions of himself, one from 1958 and one from 1975, to do the same.
The final fight saw the Legends face off against and beat Savage in 3 different timelines with Heat Wave and Atom killing the version in 1958, Firestorm and White Canary killing the one from 1975, and the last version was killed by Hawkgirl with help from Rip and Hawkman in 2021.
In the episode "The Curse of the Earth Totem", thanks to Nate, Blackbeard, and his men are able to make their way onto the Waverrider in hopes of commandeering the ship.
However, when they walk on they're met by Ava and Sara who both grab weapons and fight off the group of pirates until Blackbeard is the only one left standing. While it's always fun to see them fight together, they fight felt extremely underwhelming due to how quickly it was over and how easy it was for Sara and Ava to win.
