Man City fume at VAR yet AGAIN as Dembele appears to foul Laporte in build-up to second goal as Lyon enjoy shock win
MANCHESTER CITY were left raging at VAR yet again as Moussa Dembele sent them packing in the Champions League.
The former Celtic striker scored a late double to seal a 3-1 win for Lyon in the Champions League quarter-final.
But the decisive second goal for Lyon came in VERY controversial circumstances.
In the build up to the finish, City defender Aymeric Laporte appeared to be fouled by the matchwinner.
To make things worse, the ball got to Dembele by passing through an offside team-mate’s legs.
The referee even appeared to take the whistle to his lips to blow for a foul for the tangle between Laporte and Dembele.
But Dutch man in the middle Danny Makkelie vitally waved play on.
And City were left to berate VAR for the second year in succession after it failed to come to their rescue and the goal was awarded.
Former ref Dermot Gallagher ran through the incident in detail and said he was “surprised” it was not given.
He told BT Sport: “Does he touch the ball himself? No he doesn’t.
“So really the offside is immaterial, it’s the foul in the build-up.
“I was very surprised that the contact wasn’t given as a foul, especially as the consequences were the player who instigated that potential foul actually went on and scored the goal.
“He actually had a material impact in that decision, so I was surprised it wasn’t given as a foul.”
After the game Guardiola was asked about VAR and said: “I don’t know. I don’t want to talk about the circumstances.
“It looks like I am complaining or finding causes. We are out.
“I had the feeling we were ready but we make mistakes. That’s why we are out.”

One said: “The more I see that foul on Laporte that lead to the 3rd goal….The more I wonder what UEFA told VAR to do against Man City.
“Ref put his whistle in his mouth to blow the foul, and then he changed his mind… And the stupid VAR officials saw that not as a foul. What nonsense!”
