The new season of Selling Sunset features an extravaganza filled with burgers & botox, luxury LA houses, and a white wedding with literal fake snow. However, after watching what the first episode has to offer, perhaps nothing was more interesting than the psychic who showed up for Christine's birthday.
The 'tarot lady' was first introduced in an office conversation between the girls about Christine's upcoming birthday party. Heather reveals to the office that Christine has always had a tarot reader come to each of her parties. For clarification, tarots are decks of occult cards believed by some to indicate signs of divination. A practitioner will usually read or interact with a subject's hands and then proceeds to draw a fateful card from a tarot deck. The card drawn is meant to indicate something of unknown significance pertaining to the person's life. For example, Chrishell comments later on in the conversation that she once had her palm read and the psychic found a 'crack in her lifeline'. Unfortunately for some, the tarot reader that attended Christine's birthday was far less ambiguous.
Whether it be through research or actual psychic powers, the lady who was hired to Christine's tarot reader obviously arrived armed with plenty of ammunition to hit some of the cast members where it hurt. She began by first reading Christine's palm and announced several odd assertions such as Christine 'sometimes bends for people' and 'doesn't like drama'. These claims suspiciously seemed to be statements that Christine would want to hear. Subsequently, she drew Christine's tarot card displaying the devil which she interpreted as 'instant gratification'. Needless to say, after Christine's psychic conclusion the other cast members were understandably skeptical.
In particular, after seeing Amanza's critical reaction the tarot lady quickly transitioned to her. While reading Amanza's palm, she concluded that Amanza hides her emotions. However, this was conveniently emphasized later on in the season. Amanza, of course, questions this by pointing out her very openly, opinionated relationship with Christine. With no rebuttal, the psychic then continues to move on to Mary. After reading her palm, she claims that Mary 'seeks passion' and 'needs someone that adores her.' All of the cast members seemed to come to an agreement on this conclusion. Afterwards, the lady told Maya that she has hands 'like a surgeon' which means she is 'very independent'. But perhaps the psychic's last two readings were most interesting, as they were basically insults to Chrishell and Davina.
For Davina, she claimed that from her psychic understanding 'sometimes she's a little weird.' After a quick laugh at Davina's expense, the psychic then moved on to Chrishell. Naturally, she insinuated that Chrishell is fake by claiming that she has 'two personalities.' Christine, in particular, enjoyed this conclusion and it began to seem like the spectacle was catered for her amusement. It's likely that the tarot reader had researched key information about the group and then pandered to the client that had hired her. While it's not impossible that there was some truth behind the cards, this episode was more about the confirmation of Christine's biases rather than any shocking new revelations about the future. Nonetheless, for more drama and shady behavior, check out the new season 3 of Selling Sunset, available now on Netflix.
