Aldi’s Christmas food includes a giant frozen Ferrero Rocher dessert
FERRERO Rocher fans will be excited to learn Aldi is launching a giant dome-shaped dessert inspired by the chocolate truffle in time for Christmas.
The “Specially Selected Chocolate and Praline Dome” will land in Aldi stores on October 26.
It will only be available as a frozen dessert throughout the festive season.
The dome is filled with milk chocolate and hazelnut mousse, milk chocolate feuilletine – a crispy flake made from pancakes – cocoa sponge cake, and is covered in a crispy chocolate shell.
The German supermarket chain suggests defrosting it an hour before you want to serve it your guests.
The Ferrero Rocher-inspired dessert is part of Aldi’s Christmas 2020 range, which also includes a chocolate and salted caramel layered bar.
The bar has a dark chocolate and hazelnut mousse with a praline feuilletine, a salted butter caramel mousse covered with a chocolate biscuit and dark chocolate shell.
Both desserts are made by a supplier in France. The nutty dome will cost £4.99 for 500g. It comes in slightly cheaper than Tesco’s chocolate orange and maple bauble cake, which costs £13 for 1.08kg – or £6.50 per 500g.
We’ve asked Aldi how many calories the sweet treat contains and we’ll update this story if we get a response.
Asda has also offered a sneak preview into its Christmas range, which includes a chocolate orange opera cake. No price or details of when it will hit the stores have yet to be announced, but watch this space.
An Aldi spokeswoman told The Grocer: “No one knows exactly how the situation will have changed by December but one thing we’re sure of is that Christmas won’t be cancelled.
