Hulu’s Books of Blood Movie Based On Horror Anthology Gets Poster & Release Date
Hulu’s upcoming film adaptation of Clive Barker’s 1980s horror anthology book series Books of Blood has been given an official release date, as well as a proper poster reveal. The film, which was announced last year, is directed by Brannon Braga, with Seth MacFarlane onboard as executive producer, and a cast that includes Andy McQueen, Freda Foh Shen, Anna Friel, and Rafi Gavron.
The film – the latest in a long string of screen adaptations of Barker’s macabre stories – will hit Hulu on October 7th. The poster shows a human face becoming a worn, tattered tome in a scream-like image that’s somewhere between René Magritte and Guillermo Del Toro. The tagline at the bottom of the poster reads “All Stories End Here.”
Though the anthology structure of Barker’s books, which were released in six volumes from 1984 to 1985, make them perfect for a series adaptation, Hulu’s version will be a single film focusing on three different stories. Depending on the film’s success on the streaming platform, following it up with another installment doesn’t seem out of the question. And with thirty different stories to choose from between Barker’s original writings, there certainly isn’t a lack of content available should fans want more.
Despite a prolific career as a prose writer of horror, Barker is perhaps most famous as the creator of the popular Hellraiser series of films. With such an influential horror franchise to his name, it will be interesting to see how Hulu’s upcoming movie measures up. Books of Blood releases for streaming on October 7th.
