Williams: I want to lift a trophy like the United teams I grew up supporting
Ahead of Monday night’s Europa League quarter-final against Copenhagen, Brandon Williams has spoken to MUTV about the game.
I think playing for this club is an achievement in itself but to be playing in the quarter-finals in Europe is something else. We’re all excited and ready for tomorrow’s game. One team is definitely going through and one team is going home (after one leg) and we’re confident that we’ll be the team going through. We’re all prepared and excited.
Everyone is ready and prepared to play. We’re going to need the legs, so it won’t just be the first XI. During training everyone’s been looking sharp.
We’re not underestimating them. We’re focussed, we know how they play, but we’ll stick to what we do and hopefully go through.
A year ago, Williams was competing in tournaments with the U-23s but now is playing regularly with the first team. Teden Mengi made his debut last week and claimed he had been inspired by what Williams has done this season, and Williams says he has been motivated by players who came before him.
It’s all gone so fast and it’s down to me and my family and all the coaches who’ve put trust in me. I’ve gone out and shown what I can do and just want to play as many games as I can for the club. It was the same for me watching the likes of Marcus and Jesse and all the others who’ve done it before. You always think, why can’t it be you, if you put in the work. When he came off the bench in the last game I was so happy for Teden.
It’ll be a really good boost going in to next season. It’s just something that players need. For me, as a young boy, it would be a massive achievement. For me, being a United fan since I was young watching them win all the trophies, so this would just be a starting point for us.
