DEAR DEIDRE: MY girlfriend has told me she might be pregnant but she has also asked me for space. I’m so confused.
We’ve been together for a year. I was working abroad for the last three months of last year.

Things were rocky between us when I got back and we split up.
My girlfriend is 31 and I’m 33.
I went out with an ex then.
She’s 28 and single and we had a brief fling.
My girlfriend got in touch again saying she missed me, so we gave each other a second chance.
When we had a heart-to-heart about who we had been with, I confessed about my ex.
My girlfriend couldn’t seem to get past it.
I was going to propose to her on her birthday this year but she asked for space this week.
Now she’s told me she’s missed her period.
I love her but I don’t want to have a child if I can’t be with the mother.
DEIDRE SAYS: Tell her you love her, that the fling with your ex meant nothing and you will support her however she handles the pregnancy – that must be her choice.
