ALC’s Third Annual Alumni Purpose Day
Alice Lloyd College hosted its third annual Alumni Purpose Day on June 11. Although distance and pandemic health guidelines separated alumni from each other and the College, the day was spent reconnecting through social media and sharing memories of time on the ALC campus.
ALC alumni are among the best in the nation, and they quickly responded to requests for their support on Purpose Day. They also made posts on Facebook and shared videos for the Office of Alumni Relations to use on its page. Joe Brooks, a 2002 graduate, stated reasons he supports his alma mater. He said, “The reason I give back is two-fold. I believe in President Stepp, and I believe in Amanda Clark, who is over The June Buchannan School. I believe in ALC folks more than anything. I believe in their heart, and I believe in their mission. Also, I give because of students who, like me, come in and might not be able to afford a lot. If you give a dollar, five dollars, five hundred dollars, or five million dollars – just give. Sow a gift and allow the College to grow.”
The Alumni Office gave away prizes and encouraged alumni to participate in online games and activities throughout the day. Alumni even learned what early campus leader they are most like by taking a personality quiz. The Facebook posts that day differed widely from the College’s usual content because ALC Eagle mascot, Talon, once again staged another “Talon Takeover.” He encouraged alumni to make their donations through funny photographs and posts while also thanking ALC’s front-line heroes and teachers during the coronavirus pandemic. Pamela Adams, from the class of 2007, motivated fellow alumni to give back by posting on social media throughout the day. Talon encouraged the alumni’s family to get involved in the activities, and Pamela took the opportunity to include her children, Christian and Gianna, by sharing their eagle coloring page.
The overall theme of the day was “ALC Alumni Give Back”, and many demonstrated how true the statement is by donating to the new Rainy Day Student Fund, which will soon be available to assist students in emergency situations. Tiffany Combs, who graduated in 2011, commented, “I can truly say there is not another college that cares as much about their students. They don’t only care about their academics but also their well-being, their morals, their character, and their future. I donate to Alice Lloyd because they have truly given me so much more then I could ever give back to them. I now pray that my annual contribution allows another student the same opportunities I have.”
The third annual Alumni Purpose Day was a success because of the overwhelming response and generous support of ALC alumni. We are pleased to announce that alumni participation increased by 5% during this event. Thank you to all alumni who have helped made this possible!
