Here are three songs worth listening to this week, all of which can be found on various music streaming sites as well as on YouTube.
Many will remember Jorge Drexler’s “Al Otro Lado Del Rio,” which was featured in the 2004 film “The Motorcycle Diaries” and went to win best original song at the 77th Academy Awards. Now, Leon Sidran, who co-produced the original version of the song, has spearheaded an amazing quarantine, English-adaptation of the tune with 40 artists contributing from around the globe. The new version — using the English title of “Row On” — features the likes of jazz singer Kurt Elling (from New York), rocker Butch Vig (from Los Angeles), Joy Dragland (from Oslo) and, of course, the song’s author, Drexler, chiming in from Madrid.
Jordan Davis showed on the 2018 debut “Home State” that he’s one of the most promising newcomers in mainstream country music. And he adds even more proof with his newly released, self-titled EP. Take a listen to what might be the EP’s best song — the heart-warming single “Detours” — and we think you’ll quickly understand why people are expecting big things of this Louisiana native.
The Styx man delivers a cover of this Led Zeppelin classic that sounds really good streamed through our computer. But we bet it would sound even better cranked all the way up, preferably on an eight-track tape player, in a Camaro. Too bad we don’t own a Camaro, with or without an eight-track tape player..
