Cheryl left ‘unimpressed’ as Liam Payne jokes about their ‘cringe’ first meeting when he was just 14
CHERYL is not happy with ex Liam Payne after he joked about meeting his future baby mama when he was only 14.
The pair first crossed paths when Liam auditioned for X Factor and Cheryl was a judge 10 years his senior.
Liam would go on to worldwide success with One Direction who were formed from the reality singing competition and eventually started dating Cheryl, 36, in 2016.
The pair dated for a couple of years and welcomed son Bear who recently celebrated his third birthday.
But when Liam, 26, was forced to watch his original 2008 audition for an interview with Esquire, the singer acknowledged the awkward situation he was about to find himself in.
“Let’s address the elephant in the room… obviously, the future mother of my son is sat in that chair.”
Cheryl’s “not impressed” at the comment according to Heat magazine because she “hates being reminded of their awkward history.”
The magazine’s unnamed source said: “It’s really embarrassing when it’s put in that context and it makes her cringe.”
The former couple have remained on good terms for Bear’s sake, but Liam has admitted it’s been hard not to see him during lockdown.
Speaking on a new YouTube video, Liam gave fans a rare insight into his relationship with Bear, who he shares with ex-girlfriend Cheryl.
He said: “Let’s talk about my son. I have a three-year-old son named Bear, he has been extremely funny at the moment and very cute as well.
“It has been the toughest time being apart from him.”
Liam admitted that the toddler’s comments made him “want to cry” as he said that being apart from him has been the “toughest time”, but said they made the best decision to stay apart.
He is isolating in his London home and although separated parents of children under 18 are allowed to split custody during lockdown, he previously revealed that he and Cheryl agreed not to risk their son’s health.
The star was heartbroken when he was forced to miss his son’s third birthday in March, explaining at the time: “It was a really tough call not to go down for his birthday.
“I discussed it with Cheryl and we both agreed it was for the best thing.
“I’m down here in the city and I’ve been exposed to everything and we were slowly finding out information about this thing.
“It was horrible and I got lots of pictures and videos, I did a little FaceTime.
“That’s been the hardest thing, it’s the most difficult thing for all of us. It’s quite funny – the technology that’s been pushing us further apart is pulling us together again.”
Both Liam and Cheryl are fiercely protective of their son and still haven’t shown his face to fans.
However, the little boy could be heard talking in a video Cheryl shared last month – and he clearly takes after his Newcastle-native mum, speaking in a strong Geordie accent.
The Bedroom floor singer also revealed Bear was a big fan of both his parents’ music.
“Cute things happen, he knows it’s Daddy’s music so he goes ‘put Daddy’s music on’, which is quite cute,” Liam told Daily Star Online.
“Honestly, when Cheryl comes on the TV he just becomes bemused. He looks at the TV and starts dancing crazy.
“Like when Love Made Me Do It came out and she performed it on the X Factor he kept playing it over and over again.”
Liam added: “Cute things happen, he knows it’s Daddy’s music so he goes ‘put Daddy’s music on’, which is quite cute.”
