President Donald Trump on Thursday said the deadline for filing federal taxes could be further delayed. "Things could happen like that. We have to help people," Trump told reporters at the White House, during a meeting with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. NBC News reported that Tax Day, which has been pushed to July 15, could be extended to Sept. 15 or as late as Dec. 15. The report said administration officials stressed no decision had been made. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin pushed back the filing deadline in an effort to ensure households and businesses have cash on hand to withstand the coronavirus outbreak's economic shockwaves.
