Ex-Spurs man claims ‘uncertainty’ under Mourinho has hurt this defender’s progress
Former Tottenham player, Michael Brown, has claimed that Juan Foyth has failed to adapt to English football since his move to Spurs three seasons ago, backing the Argentine to leave the club this summer.
Foyth’s progress has stalled this campaign partly owing to the injury he picked up in pre-season which saw the defender miss the first few months of action.
Since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, the 22-year-old has barely seen any opportunities come his way.
Reports have suggested that Foyth is likely to leave the club at the end of the season (Independent) and the defender himself admitted that he is keen to play regularly, whether that be with Spurs or somewhere else (TNT via Sport Witness).
Brown feels that the uncertainty in the Spurs backline hasn’t helped Foyth and that his time at the club has come to an end.
When asked what’s gone wrong for Foyth at Spurs, Brown told Football Insider: “I think the uncertainty under the manager. You expect good things from these international players.
“Sometimes it just doesn’t work out with a change of country, a change of the style of play. There’s been such uncertainty with the way Spurs have played, managers have changed, they’ve gone to a back four, a back three, regular changes.
“It just hasn’t worked out.”

I still remain a fan of Juan Foyth and I believe he has the potential to be a top right-sided centre-back in a back three or a right-back. His tendency to on dwell on the ball and take risks does not make him suited to playing as one of the two central defenders in a back four, which is where he has mostly played at Tottenham. I still believe loaning him out would be in our best interest, but I expect him to be sold permanently.
