Freak Brothers Animated Show Casts Woody Harrelson, Pete Davidson & More
The Freak Brothers adult animated show casts Woody Harrelson, Pete Davidson and others. First published in 1971, the underground comic The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers followed a trio of San Francisco hippies whose lives mainly revolved around buying and smoking marijuana and, in typical hippie fashion, sticking it to the man. The comic would ultimately publish 14 issues with the last coming in 1997.
Now, the Freak Brothers are set to return as an adult animated series set in modern times, with Mark Canton (The Last Witch Hunter) and Courtney Solomon (The Woman in the Window) as executive producers and a writing team that includes Silicon Valley’s Dave Krinsky and John Althschuler and Highly Gifted‘s Daniel Lehrer and Jeremy Lehrer. As reported by Deadline, the voice cast for the show has added two actors, Harrelson and Davidson, who seemingly are perfect to play hippie-era stoners transplanted to the modern world. They’ll be joined by Tiffany Haddish and John Goodman.
Harrelson, Davidson and Goodman will voice the Freak Brothers themselves (they are not actually siblings), while Haddish plays their cat Kitty. In this modern-day take on the cult comic, the ‘60s stoners enjoy a genetically mutated strain of marijuana that causes them to fall asleep for 50 years. Needless to say, the world they emerge into after a half-century-long pot-induced coma is massively changed from the one they left behind. For one thing, marijuana is now legal. No doubt, plenty of satirical comedy is set to ensue as these relics from a past era navigate the modern world and all its many challenges. The Freak Brothers reportedly will run for 8 episodes and is set to debut in the fall, though no distributor has yet been secured.
