UK weather forecast – Mini-heatwave for bank holiday begins today with 25C temperatures on the way
THE mercury will rise to 25C over the next few days, giving Brits a chance to enjoy a mini-heatwave for bank holiday.
The warm weather has been forecast to sweep northwards from the Spanish region bringing the hot conditions to the UK.
Britons have basked in the glorious sunshine over the last few weeks, with much of the UK only able to enjoy the warm conditions in their gardens and on their balconies due to the lockdown restrictions.
And it looks like the good weather will continue with temperatures to hit 22C and potentially 25C on the bank holiday this Friday which will mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.
According to the Met Office, today’s weather will look rather cloudy in the west and north with brief brighter spells and further showers.
Most parts of the UK will enjoy temperatures between 19C and 23C.
On Friday the weather will be dry and warm with sunny spells with some scattered thunderstorms in the south.
There will be rain in the far north, however, turning heavier as it spreads south with much colder weather following.
Some leading bookmakers have even cut odds on this Friday to go down as the hottest ever May bank holiday.
‘HOTTEST MAY BANK HOLIDAY’
Coral’s PR Manager John Hill said: “With temperatures set to rise over the new few days, we have slashed the odds on Friday being the hottest May bank holiday we have ever had in the UK.”
But over the weekend, temperatures are likely to turn bitterly-cold, forecasters warn, as Arctic air sweeps southwards across the whole of the country.
BBC’s Mr Taylor said: “Big temperature swings are not desperately unusual for this time of year, but certainly some big changes ahead later this week.
“The next two days the warmth builds and Friday could see temperatures widely into the high teens and maybe 25C in the southeast corner.

“Through the weekend though, a surge of Arctic air returns and some of you will struggle to get to double figures – even snow showers across the north and east of Scotland.”
UK meteorologists also confirmed that April 2020 went down as the sunniest on record.
The weather was a hit with Brits in lockdown as across the country people took to public parks to do their daily exercise.
