New reports suggest that all three of the original Mass Effect games will be receiving an HD remaster later this year. Although the ending of Mass Effect 3 lots of fans with a cold feeling towards the series, many players still hold BioWare's science fiction RPG/action franchise in high regard thanks to the quality of the series' world building and the strength of its many characters.
The newest entry in the Mass Effect franchise, Mass Effect: Andromeda, proved to be somewhat of a mixed bag upon release, and despite being the first series title on next-generation hardware the game suffered from a number of technical glitches and bugs which saw a multitude of janky facial animations and weird issues being posted to the internet in a fashion somewhat reminiscent of the launch of Assassin's Creed Unity. However, despite these flaws the game was still enjoyed by many, and while it's uncertain what the future of the Mass Effect series will be moving forward, it looks like players may finally be able to get an even higher definition look into the past.
According to a new report by VentureBeat which detailed a recent Electronic Arts investor finance call, the undisclosed "HD remake of an EA game" mentioned in the call as coming sometime in this fiscal year will be "the Mass Effect Trilogy." If true, this means that players will be getting their hands on an enhanced version of the first three Mass Effect games sometime between right now and the end of March 2021.
This would mark either the third (or up to the fifth, depending on how it's counted) remastered game which EA is currently in the process of releasing, with both Command & Conquer Remastered and Burnout Paradise Remastered (for Switch) also planned. Unfortunately, the report also states that this Mass Effect Trilogy HD remaster collection won't be appearing on the Nintendo Switch, at least at first, although the possibility may exist in the future.
While this information has not been confirmed publicly by Electronic Arts, both the source (Jeff Grubb, journalist for VentureBeat, has a history of reliability) and the possible idea of why (seeing how interested fans still are after Mass Effect: Andromeda before funding another new entry in the series) points towards this being a legitimate claim. Nothing is confirmed until the company says publicly what their HD remaster is, of course, but it's looking like Mass Effect Trilogy is it... and maybe this time players will try out Renegade over Paragon for once.
