It seems as if Jack Wilshere has put rivalries to one side this week when naming his toughest ever Premier League opponent, as the former Arsenal man picked Mousa Dembele.
Both playing in central midfield positions, Dembele and Wilshere came face to face on numerous occasions during North London Derbies over the years.
Of course, the former rivals have since departed Tottenham and Arsenal, joining Guangzhou R&F and West Ham United respectively.
Wilshere claimed that he always hated playing against Dembele due to his strength and dribbling during an Instagram Q&A with his fans (relayed by Metro).
He said: “I always hated playing against Dembele from Tottenham. Obviously it was a derby and he was always up for the game and made it difficult. He was strong, you couldn’t get the ball off him and his dribbling was unreal.”
Dembele is always held in high regard among his teammates and opponents, having played 250 games across seven seasons with the Lilywhites (Wikipedia).
Danny Rose also recently revealed that Dembele was the best player he ever played alongside in an interview with Newcastle United.
Victor Wanyama and Dele Alli each also claimed that Dembele was the best Tottenham player during interviews with Soccer AM.
Spurs Web Opinion:
I have to agree that Dembele is one of the two best midfielders I have ever seen at Tottenham, alongside Luka Modric. Insane skill, strength, dribbling, power, and vision. Criminally underrated.
