WE MUST ensure we do not find ourselves in a position with this football season where we are putting wealth before health.
If we have to finish the campaign behind closed doors, then it is clear coronavirus is still a threat across the country.
But there is a human element here, of far greater significance than potential lost income, that simply cannot be ignored.
Will footballers feel comfortable going on to a pitch with 21 others while the virus is still lurking?
Like myself, I am sure a number of players are doing the shopping for parents and grandparents who have been forced into isolation.
They may have a pregnant wife or family member with underlying health problems.
So with the potential of catching the virus and taking it back to their families, do you really think footballers will be OK with that?
If, as a commentator, I was told I was working on a game in the midst of the crisis, could they guarantee me I won’t get ill?
Of course they can’t but to an extent I would be able to keep myself to myself.
They can say testing will be done on all players but God forbid something goes wrong and someone passes it on to a vulnerable family member.
There have even been suggestions that squads will stay away in camps, like they would for international tournaments.
But, likewise, that would not sit well with me at all.
I do what I can to make sure my family is OK.
And there is not a chance in hell I would be leaving them behind to go to a random place for a month.
I really do want football back as much as anyone.

That date needs to be given so people know what to aim for.
