Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly planning to use his link with super-agent Jorge Mendes to sign striker Raul Jimenez this summer.
The Wolves frontman has been in superb form this season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions to leave Nuno Espirito Santo’s men flying high in the Premier League and also in the last-16 of the Europa League.
One of those goals was a brilliant winner for the midlands outfit at Spurs back in early March before the season was suspended, and that seems to have heightened Mourinho’s interest in the 28-year-old.
However, both Manchester United and Real Madrid are also said to be in the running to sign the Mexico international, who is now valued at £50million – having joined Wolves in a permanent £32.6m deal in the summer of 2019.
A report from Soccer Link in France, via Birmingham Live, states that Mourinho will attempt to use his relationship with Mendes to lure Jimenez away from Molineux.
Mendes, who enjoys a close relationship with Wolves owners Fosun, has brought many of his clients to the Black Country over the past three seasons.
He was integral to Wolves’ capture of Jimenez from Benfica, while he also represents Nuno Espirito Santo.
The report claims that Mourinho wants Jimenez to add competition to first-choice striker Harry Kane, who has missed the second part of the season through injury but has also admitted that he may quit Spurs this summer.
On the surface, it would appear that Jimenez is viewed as more of a back-up for Kane, rather than a strike partner, so Daniel Levy is unlikely to spend over £50m on a player who would start on the bench.
Indeed, that mistake has already been made at Tottenham this season, with record signing Tanguy Ndombele failing to earn regular playing time under Mourinho and already being tipped to move on this summer.
Meanwhile, AC Milan have revived their interest in Tottenham Hotspur full-back Serge Aurier, but are also looking at an Everton man, according to reports in Italy.
Aurier has failed to live up to expectations since joining Spurs from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, and could be on his way out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.
The 27-year-old remains under contract until 2022, but Jose Mourinho may prefer to sign an upgrade at right-back – and Aurier could be pushed out. Read more…
