ASKING the opinion of others can be make or break when it comes to purchasing decisions.
But a 43-year-old mother was no better off and completely divided opinion when she asked if she is too old to wear a short black dress on the school run.
A mum asked if this dress was “too short” to wear for the school pick up[/caption]
Posting anonymously on British parenting site Mumsnet, the woman shared a link to a dress she was considering buying from the Warehouse website.
The mother who wears a UK size 10, explained that she was considering the dress to “wear about the house on warm days” and “maybe the school run” once the lockdown has lifted.
She suggested wearing the cute frock with trainers or flat sandals and thought it made for the perfect summer dress, but wondered if it were in appropriate for her age.
Other mums were quick to offer their thoughts with some saying age should never be a factor in deciding what to wear.
She said she had “good legs” and was a UK size 10[/caption]

However, many others deemed the garment too risqué for the school gates and advised against the online purchase.
Supporting her decision, one person said: “I’m not even clicking on the link because no it is definitely not too short! Your age should not influence your choices.”
And another commented: “I haven’t read all the comments but this pandemic has taught me to not give a toss about what others think. If you like it, go for it, buy it and enjoy it!”
And a third added: ” I don’t know why your age is relevant to the question. I like the dress, definitely worth a punt, see how you feel in it. You can always send it back. You’re not going to know if it’s comfortable or feels too short etc until you try it.”
Others argued the style is too short regardless of the mother’s age, and is not appreciate for anyone to wear on it’s own.
The woman divided opinions in the internet[/caption]
One person wrote: “Too short in my opinion. Nothing to do with age, or size, or shape – it’s just too short for anyone to be worn without leggings underneath (which would ruin the look anyway. Unless you want to flash your vagina, that is.”
Another liked the dress but suggested wearing it with pants, she said: “Lovely dress… simple, stylish, tasteful.. but yeah i’m going to say it, very short. Too short for me. If i can’t bend over in it without giving everyone an eyeful, it’s a flat no. I’d wear it with skinnies though.”
Meanwhile, a third added: ” The dress is just too short to wear bear legged unless you are on a beach. It doesn’t matter how great your legs are, it’s not appropriate and when it rides up and shows your crotch (which it most certainly will unless you are a statue) others around you will not know where to look for the best. Why would you want to put people in that position?”
The dress description on the Warehouse website reads: “Simple, modern, classy. This boxy mini dress with puff sleeves and pintuck detail is sweet without being at all twee. An easy summer win,” but it seems not everyone agrees.
