Taylor fights Khongsong at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland
Parting ways with promoter Barry McGuigan necessitated a parting of ways with trainer Shane McGuigan when Josh Taylor joined forces with Top Rank, and “The Tartan Tornado” has found a replacement in Ben Davison. The two will have their first fight together on May 2nd when Taylor faces IBF mandatory challenger Apinun Khongsong in Glasgow, Scotland.

We’ve already discussed Taylor (16-0, 12 KO) vs. Khongsong (16-0, 13 KO), which airs at 2:30 PM Eastern on ESPN+, plenty, so I’ll just leave you with Taylor’s press release comments.
“I am super excited to kickstart the new year with a fresh start and with a new team,” Taylor said. “It’s great to have the teams at MTK Global, Queensberry Promotions and Top Rank in my corner, and I’m delighted to be fighting on BT Sport and ESPN+ and even more so that this is happening in Scotland in front of a home crowd who have waited so long for this! I can’t wait to get the ball rolling with putting on a great performance.”
No blurb from Khongsong, sadly.
Davison is best known for his work with Tyson Fury, guiding “The Gypsy King” through his comeback after 2.5 years on the shelf. Their partnership ended after Fury’s split draw with Deontay Wilder, as Fury elected to work with SugarHill Steward for the rematch. He also currently trains Billy Joe Saunders; the pair had their own split back in 2017, but reunited following Saunders’ come-from-behind knockout of Marcelo Coceres last November.
