To be fair, it was only because he was 'blue' and scored against 'them' he got of lightly here. Anybody who knows anything about football could see he wasn't good enough at this level.
I don't agree with that. I think he's proved himself to be decent enough for us, and recently as well. His passing is inconsistent, sure (he's not on his own there) but he does have some ability on the ball, and his physicality has helped us out. There's been too much scapegoating of Davis IMO. If we want to progress, fine, we have to do better, and that includes doing better than most of the midfield that we have at present, but he's been chosen by quite a few managers to be in the first team at this level. What they're accusing him of at Charlton doesn't sound like the Davis that I've seen. He's a player that does better with ball players around him, but does anyone remember the thread early in the season, David 'Pirlo' Davis? ???? Maybe a trifle OTT, but David had astounded quite a few with the passing display that he'd put on that day. This was in the middle of the Dongball commitment, and his display was good to see.
He's been picked by Rowett consistently and by Monk in this division. Also Cotterill - I'll give you that one.
Great, sensible, post. I wasn't gutted Davis left. He probably asked for more football that we couldn't offer him. He was a good enough squad player. I do feel saddened at times, that we scapegoat players.
He certainly wasn't the worst player, yet defending him doesn't mean I thought he was the best. If he's good enough to play for our first team, he's better than me. ????
