At this year’s South by Southwest music festival, LGBTQ artists are getting a long-awaited platform … literally.
On Thursday (Feb. 27), it was announced that SXSW would be featuring their first ever Pride showcase with #OUTLOUD. Produced in collaboration with live event firm JJ|LA, the new showcase will take place on March 17, where pop singer Betty Who will perform as the headlining artist, with artists like Madame Gandhi, COBRAH, Flavia, SWSH, La Doña, Bang Bang Romeo, pineappleCITI, CAPYAC, Ryan Cassata and Ariel View joining for performances.
Starting at 7 p.m. and running until 2 a.m. at Mohawk Austin, the event will feature both indoor and outdoor stages, where host and Drag Race alumna Morgan McMichaels will introduce the queer acts as they take the stage. Along with being put on by SXSW and JJ|LA, #OUTLOUD will feature Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Diego Pride as Community Pride Partners.
“This first-ever #OUTLOUD Artist Showcase features an impressive lineup of talented established and up-and-coming performers who are making their mark in the world, and we are proud to partner with SXSW and provide a stage to help raise these creative voices even higher,” JJ|LA’s founder and CEO Jeff Consoletti said in a statement. “#OUTLOUD and its Community Partners are focused on promoting love, acceptance, inclusiveness, identity and support by bringing all people together in this colorful celebration of community.”
