THE Simpsons fans have the news they have been waiting for – there WILL be a sequel to the 2007 film.
The second movie from the hit cartoon franchise is in “early stages” with the show’s producer insisting “we would love to do it”.
Back in 2007, TV viewers flocked to cinemas to see their favourite dysfunctional family break on to the big screen.
The Simpsons Movie saw hapless dad-of-three, Homer, unwittingly condemn the city of Springfield to being contained in a giant glass dome after he overpolluted the local lake.
It has now been over 13 years since it was out and followers of the show want more.
Today fans have been thrown some hope – but it could still be a while off.
Producer Al Jean told Slash Film: “[It’s] in the very, very early stages.
“We would love to do one for Disney but it’s not like it’s happening next week or next year.
“At D23 Matt [Groening] said, ‘I think it’s gonna happen’ and I agree with that.
“I believe it will happen.”
If a film does come out, fans could be waiting until at least 2022.
Meanwhile, it’s not known if Spider Pig will be in the sequel to the original movie.
The pig proved popular when Homer sang the Spider-Man song about him.
The scene sees Homer making the pig walk on the ceiling.
This gag was added at the last minute to the original film.
Film composer Hans Zimmer wrote a choral version of the song originally as a joke, but one of the producers heard it and asked him why it wasn’t in the movie – and the rest is history.
