DEAR DEIDRE: FOR a long time I’ve been keen to get a tattoo. I’m not scared of the pain but I’m angry with myself because I have been putting it off.
I decided on the design more than a year ago and I know I won’t change my mind.
I’m desperate to get a tattoo but whenever I come close I start worrying I’ll get an infection[/caption]

I want a picture of a bear because “Bear” is my nickname. I’m a 20-year-old guy.
The problem is that I’m worried about being infected during the process.
What if the needles aren’t clean or I have an allergic reaction?
Am I just being a wuss?
DEIDRE SAYS: These are sensible questions.
Blood-borne diseases such as Hepatitis B can be passed on through tattoo needles and there is a risk of an allergic reaction to the ink.
Make sure the tattoo parlour is clean.
The tools should be sterilised and wrapped for single use only.
See tattisfaction.co.uk for further advice – but best make it a very small bear in an inconspicuous place.
