Castro: Running Against Bloomberg Is Trump’s ‘Wet Dream’
Former Democratic candidate Julián Castro said Tuesday that Michael Bloomberg winning the nomination would be a "wet dream" for President Donald Trump.
"There are a lot of people out there that think maybe the best thing that we can do is nominate a billionaire like Bloomberg because he has the resources," Castro said on MSNBC. "I actually think if you look at his record on race, on Wall Street, all of these sexual harassment complaints … he actually is Donald Trump's wet dream."
Castro, who has endorsed Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), said the former New York City mayor was the closest thing Democrats had to Trump. He criticized Bloomberg's past defense of stop-and-frisk policies and highlighted Warren's criticism of Wall Street.
"Donald Trump wants to run against the guy that has all of this baggage on exactly the issues where Trump can suppress the vote like he did in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, so that he shaves away at the margins and is able to regain his Electoral College victory."
Bloomberg will appear on a Democratic debate stage for the first time Wednesday in Las Vegas. Though he isn't on the ballot in the first four states of the primary season, his candidacy has emerged as a significant force in the race, steadily rising in the polls and spending hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising.
Warren referred to Bloomberg Tuesday as an "egomaniac billionaire" who was aiming to "buy his way into the debate."
Last week, Warren said Bloomberg shouldn't be the nominee because he said ending redlining helped cause the 2008 financial crisis.
