Joe Gomez and Liverpool Confident Despite Madrid Setback

Liverpool lost 1-0 to Atletico Madrid but the defender is confident that they can overturn that at Anfield.
Losing. It’s not something Liverpool are used to. Not this season. But this is a side that has faced adversity on the pitch in the past and overcome it, and they will use that experience to come back again.
That was the message following Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano, with centre half Joe Gomez confident and determined as he looked ahead to a return leg set for Anfield.
“It’s halfway done,” he said. “We’ve come back from bigger deficits, and the second leg is at Anfield. Obviously losing is not something we’ve got into the habit of, but we dominated the majority of the game.
“They made it difficult, they played to their strengths, breaking up the game, going down and using the atmosphere. We’ll do the same at Anfield, we’ll use our atmosphere and our supporters in the same way.”
Atletico are a tough test in Europe no matter where the game is played, but if any group have earned a bit of faith in their talent and tenacity and in being about to overturn a deficit, it’s this Liverpool group.
It certainly won’t be easy on March 11th when the two sides meet at Anfield, but there are worse places to be—and this group have overcome worse—than heading back home with a one-goal deficit on aggregate.
”We have to stay patient,” Gomez added. “We had our chances. We’ll continue to do what we do, play with the same intensity and with our atmosphere that adds to things. We’ll see how they cope with it.
”Our focus is on the next one and when it comes around, we’ll be ready.”
