TOTTENHAM legend Peter Crouch has hilariously said he is “ready” to solve the club’s striker crisis.
With star man Harry Kane not expected back for another four weeks, Son Heung-min has also been struck with the injury curse.
The South Korean broke his arm in the dramatic 3-2 victory against Aston Villa and could miss the rest of the season.
That leaves Lucas Moura as the only option up top, although he is far from an out-and-out attacker.
Speaking at a press conference, boss Jose Mourinho was reminded that Barcelona have been allowed an emergency striker signing.
With Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez likely out for the season, LaLiga are set to sanction a move for Leganes hitman and former Middlesbrough flop Martin Braithwaite.
It would make previous shock Barca moves for the likes of Paulinho and Kevin Prince Boateng pale into significance compared to this one.
Mourinho said that he was “not aware of the possibility” of bringing a striker in, before adding that he could bring Crouchy back to the club.
And not long after the joke, the man himself posted his reaction on Twitter.
The 39-year-old, who retired from football last summer, wrote: “I’m ready Jose #thereturn” and he also added the robot emoji.
That is in reference to his famous “robot dance” goalscoring celebration.
And the thought of the 6ft 7ins forward back in the white shirt excited many Spurs fans.
Steve Coombes posted: “Crouch comes out of retirement to save the documentary.”
Rhys James wrote: “Back stronger”, while many urged him to “sign the contract” and to “come home”.
Another Tottenham supporter posted: “Get down to the training ground mate, sign for us til the end of the season, you’d definitely bang a few goals for us!”
Crouch started his career at White Hart Lane in the youth teams in 1995 but was shipped out to QPR in 2000 without ever making a first-team appearance.
But he would put that right in 2009 when he returned after leaving Portsmouth, playing 73 times and scoring 12 goals.
